The development of eco-friendly edible packaging material for food and agriculture applications

Plastics have become a major component in modern life but they are very slow to degrade, thus ultimately, become waste with high staying power. The increase use of plastic materials for various applications from food packaging, human utilities, industrial packaging to health consumables have led to increase awareness of the deleterious effects of such products on the environment due to their non-biodegradable nature or very slow degradation process. Therefore, finding biodegradable replacement with similar characteristics that can degrade faster is of major important.

The current research aims to try solving this problem by using biopolymer derived from renewable source  to formulate the future plastic using commercially available and established methods and additives. Successful outcome of such research could lead to significant impact on the plastic industry in specific and global environment in general.
